Founder

James J. Hautot Jr. is a founder, together with his son, Alex Hautot, of the law firm Hautot and Hautot, APLC, where he focuses his practice in workers compensation, medical malpractice, maritime personal injury, insurance coverage, all types of professional liability issues, governmental and regulatory issues, business matters and personal injury, both plaintiff and defense. He is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in the State of Louisiana, as well as before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Louisiana, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, and the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Hautot is a member of the Federal Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association, Lafayette Parish Bar Associations and the Louisiana Association of Defense Counsel. He earned his B.A. degree from Louisiana State University and his J.D. degree from Louisiana State University School of Law in 1987.

Alex Hautot was born and grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana. After graduating from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2013, he received his Juris Doctorate in Civil Law from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2016. During law school, Alex externed for the Honorable Susan Theall in the 15th Judicial District Court and the Honorable Phyllis Keaty (ret.). Alex was a member and Comment Editor of the Loyola University New Orleans Journal of Public Interest Law. In 2022, he and his father formed Hautot and Hautot, APLC. In addition to managing the overall practice, Alex’s legal interests include workers’ compensation, medical malpractice defense, and transactional work.  Outside the office, Alex enjoys traveling, reading, watching live music, and playing guitar, often with his father.
